Under the Baobab tree
Hujambo! (hello). We all reached Dar-es-Salaam safe and are slowly settling into a rhythm. Jet-lag? Yes, we are 7 hours ahead of eastern standard time and our sleep cycle is definitely out of whack. But thanks to the never ending flight journey, and a decent arrival time – it is not as bad as going to India (trust me on this).
We all got out of the airport after some waiting and more waiting to get the VISA. When we finally got out, it was exciting to see the familiar face of Dr. Beymer-Farris (along with Dr. Ian Bryceson, what a surprise!) waiting for us outside the airport gates. We all cheered and exchanged funny stories about our journey and boarded mini-vans to head north to our hotel. Later I came to know that we by-passed the whole city because of traffic congestion. Every one was hungry even though the time was nearing mid-night by the time we got to the hotel. So, we actually ate full dinner past mid-night. Being on the beach, we had nice breeze and no mosquitoes. It was pretty dark, so we had no clue about the location. Here are some photos.
